Located in the so-called “Golden Mile”, the most prestigious area of Ribera del Duero, Viña Mayor brings together the Ribera del Duero’s two great strengths.
The first a drive for innovation that fuelled the first steps of the creation of this comparatively youthful D.O. in 1986. The second the deep seated respect the winery has for its surroundings, where it sits in the landscape of hills and slopes that look over the majestic course of the Duero River. Combining these strengths helps form a winery with vision, grounded in the present creating powerful fruit driven wines of style and class.
This is a traditional large producer, who has decided to embrace change, so whilst their viticulture is deeply rooted in tradition seeking to maximise the expression of their land, they are now making wines that are classic and in harmony, but with a contemporary twist.
Grapes selected and harvested by hand. Transported to the winery in 300 kg boxes. Fermented in stainless steel tanks, with temperature control. Gentle extraction and 18-20 days maceration post-fermentation. Aged in high quality French and American oak barrels, medium-toast, of 225 litres in capacity for at least 12 months.

A deep ruby red. Intense juicy red fruits on the nose which explode in the mouth then melt into forest fruits, and well integrated tannin. A hint of toasted oak.
Valencian cuisine, castilian roasts or Asian food. Red meats and stews.
