The majority of the components for this intriguing blend were sourced from the renowned Swartland area in the Western Cape. The 2019 vintage was the smallest in over 14 years due to the prevailing drought conditions.
Tiny bunches and berries again meant lots of concentration and the wines are packed full of flavour as a result. Viognier is the leading component this year, with its rich texture and heady floral aromas. At the same time, Chenin Blanc essentially provides backbone and contributes to a vibrant, fruity mid-palate and crisp, zesty finish. Grenache Blanc lends an attractive green, dill- like character and elegance and our decision to increase this component for our 2019 blend, certainly paid off. Oak, as always, is used very sparingly to support the abundance of fruit and solely to create a layered, more harmonious wine and add complexity to this delicate blend, rather than overpower it.
A bold nose entices with its abundance of nectarine, peach melba and stewed apple aromas with delicate whiffs of lemon meringue. The white peach character of the nose follows through onto the midpalate with flavours of lemon verbena, quince and chives. The palate is soft, smooth and medium bodied yet with vibrant, integrated acidity. The wine has a slight spicy finish with hints of nettles, flint and preserved lemons.
A great partner to grilled fish, chicken and salads. Wonderful with Cape Malay curries, spicy mango salads and brightly flavoured pan-Asian cuisine.
