Domaine du Vieux Pressoir is located in Vaudelnay, a small village in the Loire Valley. Frédéric Etienne is the winemaker and manager of the 26-hectare estate, which is certified HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) and planted with Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc on two soil types: hard limestone, flint and clay (Jurassic), and sand and clay (Turonien). They both allow a good water drainage. Our vineyards suddens a temperate oceanic climate, which allow to harvest at an optimal ripness. The massif of the Mauges is situated 40km west of Puy-Notre-Dame and stops a lot of the rainfalls as well as reduces the risk of frosting. The harvest is made only when the Cabernet Franc is really aromatic. After soft press, the juice will have a short vinification in tanks. Short vinification with a maceration of 15 days in stainless steel tanks.
This Cabernet Franc is from vines 6-25 years old on ancient soils. No oak, just fermentation in concrete, giving a full, fleshy, broad range of flavours without imparting any oak flavour. You get lovely ripe red berry fruits and spice, and fine-grained tannins.
