Fruit for this wine was grown in the Wairau Valley where the vines are planted on a variety of soil types, ranging from free draining gravelly soils to silty clay. Low yielding vines, typical warm days and cool nights have resulted in a wine that shows classic fresh flavours of purity and intensity.
The 2018 growing season started with an excellent spring and flowering period which was followed by a long spell of hot weather with regular rainfall events through the summer months. With ample soil moisture, our harvest started earlier than the previous two vintages, luckily the cooler Autumn weather helped retain natural acidities as the season progressed. Despite the challenges in the season due to intermittent rainfall events, the winery team are delighted with the quality and flavours of the wines this year.
The juice was settled for clarity and then cool fermented to retain the fruit’s intense varietal characters. The wine was aged on yeast lees before bottling to enhance palate texture and complexity.
Grown in the Wairau Valley this dry-styled Riesling captures freshness and delicacy with lime, citrus and floral notes.
